Getting Started
Is BorrowMe free to use?
Yes! Browsing, searching, messaging, and listing items are all free. We only charge a 15% platform fee when a rental is completed. Lenders keep 85% of every rental.
Do I need to verify my identity?
Identity verification is optional but recommended. You can verify via Stripe Identity (£3 fee), by redeeming a coupon code, or by completing 5 successful bookings. Verified users get a badge on their profile, which helps build trust.
What areas does BorrowMe cover?
BorrowMe is currently focused on the UK. You can search for items by postcode or location, and filter by distance to find items near you.
Listing Items
What can I list on BorrowMe?
Tools, garden equipment, camping gear, sports equipment, party supplies, electronics, musical instruments, furniture, and more — basically anything legal and safe to lend. Prohibited items include weapons, illegal goods, and hazardous materials.
How many photos can I upload?
You can upload up to 5 photos per item. We recommend clear, well-lit photos that show the item from multiple angles.
How do I set my prices?
You can set daily, weekly, and monthly rates. You must set at least one pricing option. Consider the item's value, condition, and what similar items charge in your area.
Can I offer my items for free?
Yes! You can set your price to £0 if you want to lend items for free to your community. The platform fee is waived on free rentals.
Booking & Payments
How do payments work?
Payments are processed securely through Stripe. When you book an item, your payment is held in escrow until the rental period ends. The lender is then paid out via Stripe Connect.
When do I get paid as a lender?
Funds are released from escrow to your Stripe account after the rental period ends. You need to set up Stripe Connect to receive payouts — this takes about 5 minutes.
What if the borrower damages my item?
Report the issue through our support page. We recommend discussing expectations and care instructions before the rental begins. Security deposits may be implemented in the future.
Can I cancel a booking?
Yes, both borrowers and lenders can cancel bookings. If a lender cancels after payment, the borrower receives a full refund. If a borrower cancels, refund terms depend on timing.
Safety & Trust
Is it safe to lend my stuff to strangers?
Every user can verify their identity, and our two-way review system builds accountability. Start with lower-value items if you're unsure, and always use in-app messaging to communicate.
How does the review system work?
After each completed rental, both the borrower and lender can leave a 5-star rating and written review. Reviews are public on user profiles and help others make informed decisions.
What should I do if something goes wrong?
Visit our support page or email support@borrowme.uk. We take all reports seriously and will investigate any issues promptly.
Account & Privacy
How do I delete my account?
You can request account deletion from your profile settings. We will remove your personal data in accordance with GDPR. Your listings and messages will be permanently deleted.
Can I export my data?
Yes. Under GDPR, you have the right to access all your data. You can request a data export from your account settings.
Who can see my personal information?
Your email and phone number are never shown to other users. Only your display name, profile photo, location (city-level), and reviews are visible publicly.
